The Switch™ Contributes Native HD Fiber Distribution for Stand Up To Cancer Telecast
LOS ANGELES—On September 10, 2010, The Switch made an Uncompressed High Definition feed available of the Stand Up To Cancer telecast to all domestic and Canadian customers of The Switch via The Switch’s Inter City On Demand (ICOD) service. Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) raises funds for groundbreaking translational research to accelerate the delivery of new therapies to patients, getting them from the “bench to the bedside” as quickly as possible.
The feed was made available in 1.485 Gbps uncompressed HD, to The NY Switch, The Miami Switch, The DC Switch and The Toronto Switch. The program aired on NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and CTV in Canada as well as numerous other cable outlets.
“The ease of use and flawless execution of The Switch’s 1.485 uncompressed HD service offering made delivery to the outlets that used it a superb solution on a project where HD transmission can be anything but easy”, said Tad Scripter, Engineer In Charge for the Stand Up To Cancer event.
In addition to the uncompressed HD feed The Switch made available, The Switch also provided local circuitry from the origination site to both The LA Switch and the programs webcast partner for program distribution.

The event featured more than 100 celebrities from television, film, sports, music and journalism and was hosted by Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Diane Sawyer. In connection with this year’s show, over $80 million was pledged for Stand Up To Cancer’s innovative cancer research.
